Conventional Semen Kankrej Bulls

BAIF has been actively working with the Kankrej breed since the launch of its doorstep livestock development programme. Kankrej is a well-known dual-purpose cattle breed, valued both for its milk production and the draught power of its bullocks. The breed originates from the Kankrej region in North Gujarat, with its native tract covering the Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, and Kutch districts of Gujarat, and extending into parts of Rajasthan. Over time, due to its superior traits and adaptability, Kankrej cattle are now found in several states across India. Kankrej animals are typically grey to silver-grey in color, with males appearing darker on their fore and hindquarters. Calves are usually born reddish, and their coat color changes as they mature. The breed is easily identified by its broad, slightly dished forehead, large, pendulous ears, and distinct lyre-shaped horns that grow outward, upward, and then inward gracefully. Kankrej cattle have a powerful, well-proportioned body, with a deep chest and well-developed hindquarters, making them ideal for draught purposes. The Kankrej breed possesses exceptional qualities such as heat tolerance, resistance to tropical diseases, and the ability to thrive under minimal feeding and harsh environmental conditions. Bulls produced through BAIF’s breeding programme are recognized for their strong genetic background. They are extensively used for semen production, contributing significantly to genetic improvement and conservation of this valuable indigenous breed.
